How to enjoy your poutine, without feeling guilty?

Poutine is an emblematic dish of Quebec cuisine, appreciated for its combination of fries, cheese curds and brown gravy. Although delicious, poutine is also known to be high in calories and fat.

If you've ever wondered how much effort it takes to make up for a serving of poutine, I'm here to enlighten you.

On July 20, World Poutine Day, let's dive into the calorie content of poutine and discover some ways to burn those calories.

PS: The objective here is to help you swing without weighing anything 😉

(All conversions are based on an average of 1240 steps per mile for a person weighing approximately 150 pounds)

The Poutine

Poutine, with its crispy fries, melty cheese and tasty sauce, is a real treat. Whether it's during a beautiful summer afternoon, during poutine week or to end an evening with friends, poutine is always welcome.

However, a standard poutine (around 400g) can contain around 740 calories .

So, what is the true cost of treating yourself to poutine? To burn these 740 calories, you would need to walk around 17,150 steps , which equates to walking for almost 2 and a half hours 😵

How to burn these calories?

17,150 steps is a significant number, but there are plenty of ways to burn off those calories from your poutine without having to walk around town.

Here are some alternatives:

Pedal with intensity 🚴

An hour of cycling at a moderate pace can burn around 500 to 700 calories, depending on intensity and terrain. Cycling is a great cardiovascular exercise that also strengthens leg muscles and improves endurance.

To combine business with pleasure, why not go to the snack bar by bike next time?

Dance without embarrassment 🕺

Take part in an energetic 1.5-hour dance session , such as Zumba or hip-hop dancing, to burn around 740 calories. Dancing is a fun and social way to stay active.

Little advice: Wait until you have digested your poutine before hitting the dance floor...

Take a hike 🥾

Hiking in the mountains for about two hours can also help you burn those calories. Hiking is beneficial not only for burning calories, but also for appreciating nature and improving your mood.

Balance well, without weighing anything

Remember that although poutine can be delicious, it is important to consume it in moderation, balance it with a healthy diet and stay physically active to maintain your overall well-being.

Happy World Poutine Day 🥳
